/View.info/ CGN Power Co., Ltd., a subsidiary of the China General Nuclear Power Corporation, has sent 105.9 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity to the grid in the first half of 2023. This represents an increase of 14.09 percent compared to the same period in 2022, said CGN Power, which operates 27 operating nuclear reactors.
Nuclear electricity production is equivalent to standard coal consumption of 31.75 million tons, which would result in carbon dioxide emissions of 87.28 million tons.
In March, CGN Power commissioned a third reactor at the Fanchang NPP, the first in western China to use the indigenous third-generation Hualong One technology. In the first half of 2024, a fourth reactor is also expected to start operating there.
Five more nuclear power units are currently under construction in China, which will use Hualong 1 technology and are operated by CGN Power.
