The reigning Chinese soccer champions Jiangsu FC has ceased operations with immediate effect, according to media reports. The Nanjing club is part of the Suning Group. The group has its core business in retail and wants to focus on it in the future. As reported by Reuters news agency, the successful Jiangsu women’s team is about to end. Club representatives are looking for new owners for the football activities.
The news also raises a question mark regarding top Italian club Inter Milan. Because its majority owner, who holds 68 percent, is the Suning Holding company, which is also controlled by Suning founder and managing director Zhang Jindong. His son Steven Zhang is President of Inter. According to Italian media reports, Suning could soon see itself forced to sell the current Serie A leader.
