Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Case Covid-19 has increased again in China. As of Sunday, the country has recorded another new daily case record for 2021.
From data Worldometers, China recorded 98 new cases Sunday (1/8/2021). This beat last week’s previous record of 76 cases on July 26.
The Delta variant that started to enter the country was accused of being the cause. Cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 were found in 18 provinces in China, including the capital Beijing.
Citing state media Global Times, during July there were more than 320 cases of transmission in the country were reported. Of the 18 provinces at least four high-risk areas and 91 moderate-risk areas.
Chinese epidemiologists and public health officials evaluate that the latest outbreak is still in its early stages and it is too early to talk about the Delta variant crisis. They said the situation was still under control.
“Whether the epidemic in small towns will spread is still unknown, but the failure to control the epidemic at airports and other facilities to cope with international arrivals must be addressed immediately,” the experts said. ).
The new wave of outbreaks of this Delta variant strain first occurred in Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. Then this virus spread to more locations, including hotspot Zhangjiajie tourism in Hunan Province.
Tourists returning from Zhangjiajie carried the virus when they returned home, including to the Chinese capital, Beijing. Beijing reported two new cases on Sunday (1/8/2021) and one asymptomatic infection linked to the outbreak that originated in Zhangjiajie.
Apart from Beijing, the authorities in Henan Province confirmed that the outbreak that occurred in Zhengzhou was also caused by the Delta variant, which is still in the early stages of the epidemic. Zhengzhou itself has recently been hit by heavy rainfall and flooding.
In Zhengzhou’s infections, the new infections involved janitors, medical staff and hospitalized patients, exposing gaps in hospital disease protocols.
Meanwhile, several preventive measures have also been initiated by several provinces. Disease control authorities in Beijing and Guangdong Province in the South issued notices urging residents not to leave cities and provinces unless necessary.
Not only that, a team from the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention is currently conducting research on whether booster injections of the Covid-19 vaccine are really necessary given the strength of the Delta variant which is stronger than the usual variant.
“The authorities are currently studying whether it is necessary to take booster injections,” Shao Yiming, a leading physician and immunologist with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, said.
China nationally targets to inoculate 64 percent of its 1.4 billion population by the end of this year. In realizing this target several cities in the country have implemented several regulations that provide flexibility for people who have been vaccinated.
To date, China has recorded 93,005 cases of the virus and 4,636 deaths since the outbreak first emerged.
