China’s first ocean drilling vessel has begun trial sailing – 2024-03-12 21:20:52

/ world today news/ The first drilling vessel built in China was officially named “Mengxiang” (Dream). It began its trial voyage on Monday, marking a step forward in the country’s deep-sea resource exploration, Xinhua reported.

With a length of 179.8 meters and a width of 32.8 meters, the ship can travel 15,000 nautical miles and last 120 days at sea without returning to port.

The vessel is characterized by high stability and structural strength, can operate in unlimited navigation areas around the world and drill in the sea at a depth of up to 11,000 meters.

Manxian has world-leading offshore drilling capacity and will drill into the Earth’s crust and upper mantle, contributing to the exploration and exploitation of offshore energy resources, national energy security and offshore energy construction.

The mantle, which accounts for four-fifths of Earth’s volume and three-quarters of its mass, is full of scientific mysteries for scientists to explore.
