Beijing, Bolong.id – China is building a satellite with a crew of seven people. It is planned to be launched in 2027.
Reporting from CGTN (18/07/2023) Veteran astronaut Yang Liwei, a former fighter pilot who made history as China’s first human in space on the Shenzhou-5 satellite in 2003, shared insights about the plan.
The new generation of spacecraft adopts a more streamlined, modular design. With only two modules – the propulsion module and the return module – the new spacecraft increases its carrying capacity significantly, making it capable of carrying up to seven astronauts.
“The new generation spacecraft will be used for manned lunar missions, construction of the China Space Station, and deep space exploration,” Yang said.
Which adds that the returns module has undergone what it considers “successful” testing.
China recently revealed details about its first manned moon mission coming before 2030, which includes a next-generation carrier rocket and moon lander in addition to an upgraded spacecraft.
