China’s Covid Chronology Explodes Again & Residents Urged to Stay Home

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia A city in southeast China, Xiamen, reported another case of Covid-19, Saturday (18/9/2021). Local residents are advised to stay at home and close various public places as the virus spreads during the holiday season.

Xiamen is one of four cities in Fujian province with a population of approximately 5 million people. This city is hotspot new corona virus in China which has reported cases of Covid-19 in recent days.

As reported by Reuters on Sunday (9/19/2021), local residents were asked not to leave their homes if there was no need and to close parks, entertainment venues to sports venues, and stop mass activities including holiday trips, exhibitions and shows.

Consideration of this limitation will lead to lockdown the total starting from the first of the four-day Mid-Autumn Festival holiday period. Usually, this period is the peak of the travel season throughout China.

A number of restrictions have been implemented, including a ban on visiting the Xiamen housing complex without approval, and prohibiting non-essential vehicle traffic from entering and exiting residential areas. Furthermore, it is forbidden to eat in restaurants and cafes and other places.

Previously, the Xiamen transportation hub had also reported 92 cases of Covid-19 in the past week. That is half the number of cases in Putian, where the first infection was reported on September 10.

Xiamen authorities said the first patient in the Xiamen cluster had close contact with the case in Putian since September 13. Then, the two cities started testing and tracing throughout the city.

The first case in Putian was discovered last September 10. Initial reports suggest the infection may have been caused by a student’s father, who had traveled abroad.

The student’s father tested positive for the virus on September 10. This, 38 days after returning from Singapore, 4th August.

The student’s father has been in quarantine for 21 days and underwent nine nucleic acid and serology tests with negative results. It is unclear whether the student’s father may have been infected overseas, given that cases of exposure after such a long incubation period are rare.

As a result of this case, the authorities in Fujian have ordered all teachers and students tested within a week. The related SD has also been closed.

A significant rise in cases has also put the city south of Shanghai under lockdown. Putian has 2.9 million inhabitants.

China now has a total of 95,689 infections, with 4,636 deaths so far, according to the data Worldometers. This is a new resurgence of Covid-19 in China after July to August, where the country also carried out a lockdown that hit the tourism, hotel and transportation sectors.
