China’s Contribution to Global Renewable Energy Production Surpasses 50%: Official

Pan Huimin, Deputy Director of the International Cooperation Department of the Chinese National Energy Administration, confirmed that his country contributed more than 50 percent to the increase in global renewable energy production, which reached 510 million kilowatts in 2023.

Pan added that China plays a major pivotal role in developing clean energy at the global level, noting the expansion of Chinese companies’ investments in the field of clean energy internationally to include various sectors such as wind energy, photovoltaic energy, and hydroelectric energy.

He stressed that his country continues to support the technological innovation sectors and provide high-quality clean energy products to the world, explaining that these products have been exported to more than 200 countries and regions around the world. He noted that the cumulative value of China’s exports of these products amounted to more than $33.4 billion for wind energy and 245. $3 billion for photovoltaic products.

According to a report issued by the International Renewable Energy Agency, the world has witnessed a decline in the average cost of each kilowatt-hour of electricity generated through wind and solar photovoltaic projects around the world, and this decline exceeded 60 percent and 80 percent, respectively, during the past decade.

Pan noted that Chinese innovations, along with Chinese products and projects, played a crucial role in achieving this progress.
