China’s Chang’e-4 probe has already completed 500 Earth days on the other side of the moon, where it is conducting scientific explorations of the pristine area.
The Chang’e 4 probe landing module and rover also resumed operations on the 18th lunar day on the other side of the moon after “sleeping” during the extremely cold lunar night. One lunar day is 14 days on Earth , and a moonlit night is the same length.
The landing module woke up on Sunday at 3.25 a.m. (Beijing time), the rover on Saturday at 11.53 a.m. Both are in normal operating condition, according to the Center for Lunar Research and Space Programs of the National Space Agency of China (CNSA).
The Chang’e-4 probe, launched on December 8, 2018, made its very first soft landing on January 3, 2019 on the Von Kármán crater in the South Pole-Aitken Basin on the back of the moon.
The Chang’e-4 probe goes into sleep mode during the moon night due to the lack of solar energy.
