China’s Beef Imports Decline in August Following Record High in July

Faxcarne | China Customs reported that beef imports in August totaled 270 thousand tons at a value of US$ 1.39 billion. The volume is about 25 thousand tons lower than the July record, but it is still important and exceeds the projection of monthly import requirements, which is about 225-230 thousand tons.

The large volume that arrived in China in July and August is related to the 374 thousand tons shipped from Mercosur in the May-June two-month period.

The decrease in shipments from Mercosur in July (156 thousand tons) will surely reduce the volume that is arriving at its destination in September.

In the first eight months of 2023, 1.79 million tons of beef entered China for US$9.6 billion, with a decrease of 2.6% in volume and 26.3% in dollars.
