A US intelligence report released Thursday said China is helping Russia evade Western sanctions and likely providing Moscow with military and dual-use technology for employment in Ukraine.
The assessment was conducted by the Office of the Director of National Intelligence and released by the House Standing Committee on Intelligence after it was declassified.
China has repeatedly denied sending military equipment to Russia since Moscow’s invasion of Ukraine in February 2022.
“The People’s Republic of China is providing some of the dual-use technology that Moscow’s military is using to continue the war in Ukraine, despite the international cordon of sanctions and export restrictions,” the report said.
The report added, “Customs records show that state-owned defense companies in the People’s Republic of China ship navigation equipment
jamming techniques and spare parts for combat aircraft of Russian state-owned defense companies.
The report emphasized that China has become a “more vital partner” for Russia after Moscow invaded Ukraine last year.
The report also said that China and Russia have increased the share of bilateral trade settled in Chinese yuan, and that financial institutions in the two countries are expanding their use of domestic payment systems.
