Jakarta, CNBC IndonesiaChina’s relations with Taiwan are getting hotter. Most recently, 28 Chinese air force planes entered Taiwan’s air defense zone on Wednesday (13/9/2023) morning.

Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said Xi Jinping’s jets, including J-10 fighters, entered at around 6 a.m. local time. Chinese warplanes have flown into the southwest corner of the island’s air defense identification zone (ADIZ).

Taiwanese troops are reportedly monitoring the situation. Including sending its own air force planes and activating the air defense system to respond to the Bamboo Curtain country’s attack.

The ministry also added that several Chinese planes had crossed the Bashi Strait. Previously it was reported that China would conduct exercises with the Chinese aircraft carrier Shandong in the Pacific.

Separately, more than 20 Chinese warships, including a Type 055 destroyer, sailed through the Bashi Strait and Miyako Strait towards the Pacific on Wednesday. This was conveyed by a senior official who is familiar with security planning in the region Reuters.

The source said China’s naval maneuvers along with exercises carried out by the aircraft carrier group had irritated the United States (US). The US Navy itself, along with a US and Canadian warship, sailed through the Taiwan Strait on Saturday.

This marks the second joint mission since June. This also coincided with the leaders of the two countries attending the G20 Summit in India. Not only that, the navies of the two countries will also reportedly carry out a series of exercises in the South China Sea this week.

Democratically governed Taiwan is considered by China to be its own territory. The island has complained in recent years about China’s increased military activity near the island as it seeks to assert its sovereignty claims.
