China again expressed his anger towards United States of America after the warship of Uncle Sam’s country sailed and transited the Straits Taiwan on Wednesday (23/6).
“The US is deliberately playing old tricks and creating problems and disturbing the Taiwan Strait. This really shows that the US is the biggest risk carrier for regional security and we are absolutely against it,” said a statement from the Chinese Army’s Eastern Command.
The Chinese army released this statement shortly after the US stated that it was sending the missile destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur to the Taiwan Strait for routine transit. They stated that the mission was in accordance with international law.
“The ship’s transit in the Taiwan Strait demonstrates that the United States is committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific,” the Navy said in a statement. Reuters.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense itself stated that the US warship had crossed the northern part of the Taiwan Strait. According to them, “the situation is normal.”
This is not the first time the USS Curtis Wilbur has transited the Taiwan Strait. Last month, the ship transited the Taiwan Strait, infuriating China.
The US is used to holding sea missions in Taiwan every month. China has always responded with protests.
However, the US staged this latest transit mission about a week after 28 Chinese aircraft breached the Taiwan Defense Identification Zone (ADIZ).
The incident is considered China’s biggest intrusion into Taiwan. The G7 member countries also condemned China’s action.
China and Taiwan have been at odds since Tsai Ing Wen took office as president. He is a pro-democracy president.
Under his leadership, Taiwan is increasingly approaching Western countries, especially the US, to gain recognition. China also considers Taiwan as an opposition territory that wants to become independent.
