Jakarta, CNN Indonesia —
Chinese shooter, Yang Qian, became the first gold medalist Tokyo Olympics 2020 after winning the 10-meter air rifle shooting at the Asaka Shooting Range, Japan, Saturday (24/7).
In the final round, the 21-year-old athlete defeated Anastasiia Galashina from Russia (ROC). Yang Qian earned 9.8 points on the final shot, which earned her a record-breaking record for shooting 10 Olympic women’s air rifles.
The total points that Yang Qian managed to collect was 251.8, while Galashina collected 251.1 points. However, Yang Qian’s score did not surpass the world record held by Apurvi Chandela who collected 251.9 points.
Being the first athlete to win a gold medal at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics, Yang Qian received a medal directly from International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach. However, according to the rules at the Tokyo Olympics, the medal-winning athlete must drape his own medal.

Yang Qian’s success cannot be separated from the new faces that appear. According to data from the official website of the Tokyo 2020 Olympics, the women’s shooting champions at the 2016 Rio Olympics did not take part in this universal sporting event.
Yang Qian wasn’t really the best in the 10 meter air rifle discipline. It was evident from his position in 6th place in the qualifying phase by collecting 628.7 points, or 4.2 points behind from first place.
But in the finals Yang Qian appeared focused. From 17 shooting sessions, all points are above 10 comma. In fact, Galashina’s points were better than every session, but in the final his shot missed the mark.
Meanwhile, Indonesia’s representative Vidya Rafika Toyyiba failed to qualify for the final after occupying 35th position during the qualification. Vidya Rafika only collected 622 points. As a debutant, this is quite a valuable experience for Vidya Rafika.
