China will upgrade its 5G network to 5G-A and promote the development of 6G technology

China has issued a set of guidelines to improve the country’s data infrastructure, including upgrading its 5G network to the 5G-A standard and promoting research and innovation related to 6G technology.

With this project, powered by the National Data Administration (NDA) of the Asian giant, China will balance the deployment of communication portals throughout the country and will expand its international information channels by submarine and terrestrial cableThe official Xinhua agency reported on Saturday night.

These guidelines also seek to facilitate the “secure, low-scale and large-scale free flow of data” in China, whose Government will encourage the country’s industries and regions to “actively explore new technological infrastructure” in order to provide an “efficient and reliable” data delivery environment.

The 5G-A network, which has already begun to be deployed in some districts of Beijing and Shanghaisurpasses the current 5G network in terms of speed, latency, connection scale and power consumption, achieving download speeds of up to ten gigabits per second and one gigabit for loads.

During the last years, China has made a strong commitment to leading technological change with investments in sectors such as supercomputing, the development of 5G networks, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud storage and big data, the space race, military technology, smart vehicle solutions or clean energy, seen as sectors that will favor their growth at a time of economic stagnation.

Some of these advances have raised the Washington’s fear due to its suspicion that Chinese companies collaborate with the Asian country’s Armed Forces, which has led to the creation of blacklists in order to prevent the Chinese Government from acquiring or having access to technology developed by American individuals or companies.
