Jakarta (ANTARA) – Shipments of 5G mobile phones in China will surge by more than 50 percent throughout 2021, partly because of their affordable prices.
The China Academy of Information and Communication, quoted by Reuters on Friday, announced an increase in shipments of 5G phones by 63.5 percent or 266 million units in 2021.
5G phones in domestic shipments accounted for 75.9 percent of all cell phone units, significantly higher than the global average of 40.7 percent.
According to the agency, 5G phones are in demand as prices drop below 1,000 yuan, around Rp. 2.3 million.
By the end of November 2021, according to data from three cellular operators in China, namely China Mobile, China Telecom and China Unicom, the number of subscribers connected to 5G mobile phones was 497 million out of a total of 1.64 billion cellular subscribers.
CAICT noted that this number increased by 298 million people compared to the number of subscribers in 2020.
