China Warns Ukraine Over Naming its Firms as Sponsors of War: Reuters

Innovation in action

The Chinese ambassador reported on the negative consequences for bilateral relations of the practice of adding Chinese companies to the list of war sponsors.

About it reports Reuters citing its own sources.

NAPC has added 14 Chinese companies to its list of “international war sponsors.” China has the largest number of companies on this list of any country in the world.

In particular, the list includes such giants as:

  • Alibaba Group;
  • Xiaomi Corporation;
  • China National Offshore Petroleum Corporation;
  • China Railway Construction Corporation.

The Reuters interlocutor added that as a result, China did not put forward any conditions or “time frames” for Ukraine, but simply expressed its point of view regarding the list.

Another source suggested that Beijing may link this issue to Chinese purchases of Ukrainian grain. In 2023, China became the second importer of Ukrainian agricultural products among all countries in the world, the total amount of purchases amounted to $2.22 billion.

Through the new Black Sea shipping corridor established by Kiev last August, about 30% of Ukraine’s seaborne exports, including food, metals and ores, were sent to China, according to government data.

Let us remind you:

In August 2023, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) contributed the Chinese group of companies Alibaba Group Holding Limited to the list of international sponsors of the war.

In April 2023, the National Agency for the Prevention of Corruption (NACP) contributed Chinese corporation Xiaomi to the list of international sponsors of the war.
