LIMA, Peru, 17. November 2024 /PRNewswire/ — CMG-News:
On Saturday, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech at the 31st informal APEC meeting.
China wants to build an open and inclusive cooperation model for the Asia-Pacific region
In his speech, Xi Jinping emphasized the need to build an open and inclusive cooperation model for the Asia-Pacific region. He stressed that the region should adhere to the general direction of multilateralism and an open economy. It is important to strengthen the multilateral trading system with the World Trade Organization at its core, use APEC’s role as an incubator of global economic and trade rules and advance regional economic integration and connectivity. The aim is to facilitate the development of the Asia-Pacific and global economies. Openness, Xi said, is a hallmark of Chinese-style modernization. China is willing to explore and negotiate trade agreements in the areas of digitalization and green economy, as well as further expand the global network of high-standard free trade zones.
He also underlined the importance of promoting green and innovative growth in the region. The focus must be on ecological priorities, green development and low carbon emissions. It is necessary to achieve a comprehensive green transformation of economic and social development to create a clean and beautiful Asia-Pacific. At the same time, it is important to combine digitalization and greening in order to create new growth dynamics and competitive advantages for the region.
Xi Jinping further emphasized that the development of the Asia-Pacific region must be based on a concept of inclusiveness. This requires increased use of the APEC platform to promote economic and technological cooperation. At the same time, it is important to expand support for developing countries and disadvantaged groups in order to allow more economies and people to share in the results of development.
Finally, Xi pointed out that China will host APEC again in 2026. He expressed hope that countries in the region will deepen cooperation to bring prosperity to the people. He called on all parties to seize the opportunities of Chinese development, grow together with the Chinese economy and work to modernize all countries. The aim is to promote peaceful development, mutual benefit and shared prosperity.

Welcome to our interview on the recent speech delivered by Chinese President Xi Jinping at the 31st informal APEC meeting. We have with us two esteemed guests, Mr. John Smith, an economic analyst and political expert, and Ms. Emma Liu, a professor of international relations and global affairs.
John, let’s start with you. How do you interpret President Xi Jinping’s emphasis on building an open and inclusive cooperation model for the Asia-Pacific region? Do you think this policy shift indicates a change in China’s approach to regional integration and cooperation?
Mr. John Smith: Thank you for having me. I believe that President Xi’s call for an open and inclusive cooperation model is a reflection of China’s changing global role and its recognition of the interdependence of the Asia-Pacific region. It is encouraging to see China support multilateralism and the World Trade Organization, as well as promote regional economic integration and connectivity. This policy shift could signal China’s willingness to engage more actively in regional and international forums, as long as it maintains its leadership position.

Ms. Emma Liu: Absolutely, I think it’s crucial that countries in the region prioritize ecological sustainability and green development. China has been a leader in this area, and by promoting green technologies and innovation, it can foster a more sustainable model of growth that benefits all countries in the region. It’s also important to note that combining digitalization and greening can create new opportunities for growth and competitiveness. However, there is a risk that some countries may struggle to keep up with the technological advancements required for this transition, particularly smaller economies.
Mr. Smith, what implications do you see for developing countries and disadvantaged groups in the region with China’s focus on inclusiveness? Do you think they will be able to fully benefit from this approach?
Mr. John Smith: It’s certainly encouraging to see China prioritize support for developing countries and disadvantaged groups
