China is speeding up vaccination against the novel coronavirus infection (Corona 19) ahead of the Beijing Winter Olympics scheduled for February next year. The Chinese government plans to form’collective immunity’ by vaccinating about 890 million people, or 64% of the total population, by the end of this year.
The Global Times, a state-run media in China, reported on the 3rd (local time) that “it plans to vaccinate 560 million people by the end of June this year and 330 million people in the second half of this year.” The media reported that the day before, a video conference was held by officials from each branch of the China Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

It is still unclear whether the plan will go as planned despite the strong promotion of the authorities. An official of the Anhui Disease Control Center said, “It is a situation where about 1.5 million vaccines have been administered to more than 60 million people. China’s population is about 1.4 billion, and the vaccination rate so far is about 3.5%.
