Beijing (ParsToday / Xinhua) – The Chinese Foreign Ministry has stressed that the US must unconditionally return to the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action of the Nuclear Agreement – JCPOA – and lift all illegal sanctions against Iran.
Referring to the JCPOA Joint Commission meeting in Vienna, Zhao Lijian, spokesman for the Chinese Foreign Ministry, told reporters in Beijing that the nuclear dispute is now in a critical phase and that China supports the JCPOA Joint Commission meeting to lift the US – Discuss sanctions and the renewed implementation of the obligations under this agreement by Iran.
He expressed the hope for an agreement between the JCPOA parties and added: “The unilateral US exit from the JCPOA is the main reason for the current crisis”.
He also hoped that all sides of the JCPOA treaty would urge the US to take concrete measures to lift the sanctions and, alongside Iran, to revive the JCPOA as soon as possible.
The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman also noted Beijing’s constructive role in upholding the nuclear deal with Iran and promised that China would continue its efforts to revive the JCPOA.
On May 8, 2018, then US President Donald Trump announced the unilateral and illegal US exit from the nuclear deal with Iran and the reintroduction of sanctions against Tehran. The US government also launched a campaign of maximum pressure on Iran.
