China urges U.S. to drop obsession with containing China – Xinhua English.news.cn

BEIJING, May 28 (Xinhua) — The key to lifting China-U.S. relations out of the current difficult situation is for the U.S. side to abandon its obsession with zero-sum games and encirclement and containment of the China and stop undermining bilateral relations, a Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesperson said on Friday.

The US side should make the right choices keeping in mind the common interests of the peoples of the two countries and the world, spokesperson Wang Wenbin said.

Wang made the remarks in response to US Secretary of State Antony Blinken’s speech on US strategy towards China on Thursday, describing China as “the most serious long-term challenge to the international order”.

Mr. Wang accused Mr. Blinken’s lengthy speech of spreading misinformation, playing on the so-called “China threat”, interfering in China’s internal affairs and smearing China’s internal and external policies.

Its sole purpose is to contain and suppress China’s development and maintain US hegemony, Wang said. “China deplores this and rejects it.”

Humanity now lives in a new era of connectivity, where all countries share a common future and where their interests are intertwined. According to Wang, the US hype over the so-called “China threat” cannot solve its own problems and will only lead the world to a dangerous abyss.

The US side confuses right and wrong by calling China “the most serious long-term challenge to the international order”, he said, adding that the US always puts its domestic law above the international law and chose only those international rules that suit them pragmatically. It is the greatest source of instability in the international order.

The United States created the “Indo-Pacific Strategy” in order to ally with the countries of the region to contain China and claims to “form a strategic environment around Beijing”. This decision to gang up on China will get no support and is doomed to failure.

“Issues related to Taiwan, Xinjiang, Hong Kong and Tibet are purely China’s internal affairs,” Wang said, adding that China urges the United States to uphold basic norms governing international relations. , to stop interfering in China’s internal affairs and to stop spreading lies and misinformation.

“We solemnly warn the US side not to underestimate the Chinese people’s firm determination, will and ability to defend their sovereignty and territorial integrity,” he added. End
