China is on the verge of making a comeback in AI technology against the United States, as revealed by its project for the next 5 years. This project mainly focuses on improving artificial intelligence, but also on quantum computing technologies.
China’s tech industry has been hit hard by U.S. trade battles and the economic uncertainties of the current pandemic. China, on the other hand, is eager to rebound in the relatively near future. The country plans to return to center stage with its five-year plan.
Technological in AI: China is already gaining momentum for future innovations
According to the Wall Street Journal report, China used its party’s annual meeting to present a 5 year plan aiming to advance advances in artificial intelligence (IA). These technologies go contribute to national security and the general development of the country.
According to the report, China will establish laboratories to to encourage research and educational programs in the field such as artificial intelligence, biotechnology, semiconductors as well as quantum computing.
Moreover, the country had already developed a hack-proof quantum computer, capable of sending e-mail and video calls using next-generation technology. This technology relies heavily on the use of satellites and the exploitation of quantum computing.
In recent years, AI has become an important topic for China. The Chinese government wants to entrust ZTE with the creation of a national AI that could power most of its technologies and end its dependence on the United States. Huawei is also expected to fit into the five-year plan schedule, helping the country to develop and advance in various technologies such as smartphones as well as computers.
China: on the road to technological independence
China has developed a series of impressive innovations in recent years, especially in the field of robotics, AI and 5G connections. These technological advances already represent a certain advantage for the country.
The approach of the Middle Kingdom consists of move away from its heavy dependence on partner countries such as the United States and to become an autonomous entity in the AI development race.
However, it could also be a survival initiative. US trade restrictions have crippled companies like ZTE and Huawei in the international market. As a result, the United States continues to lead the way in global research. Even though China is already very experienced in many areas, it risks falling behind if it does not detach itself from the latest American efforts.
This is why Chinese companies are embarking on various industrial sectors which have so far been attributed to the United States. This concerns electric vehicles, AI and smartphone technology that Huawei initially dominated. The technology is one of the biggest industries in the world and China aims to develop in this aspect by implementing the 5 year plan.
