Britain asked China to allow international access to Xinjiang to verify the truth about human rights violations in the province.
“It speaks volumes that, while Britain joins the international community in sanctioning those responsible for human rights abuses, the Chinese government sanctions its critics,” British Foreign Minister Dominic Raab said in a statement.
“If Beijing is to credibly refute claims of human rights violations in Xinjiang, (the country) must allow full access for the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights to verify the truth,” he added. Reuters, Friday (26/3/2021).

Meanwhile British Housing Minister Robert Jenrick said it was a mistake for China to sanction British individuals and entities for what Beijing called “lies and disinformation” about Xinjiang.
“I think it is completely wrong for China to place these restrictions on our MPs,” Jenrick said.
“Knowing that the MPs were (sanctioned), I doubt they will be silenced or intimidated by this action,” he added.
China has sanctioned British organizations and individuals for what it calls “lies and disinformation” about Xinjiang. These sanctions were imposed days after Britain imposed sanctions for human rights violations in western China.
