China, threatened by its own population?

The Middle Empire crystallizes the concerns of international observers, in particular because it does not respect fundamental freedoms and democracy like the late USSR. These concerns are justified, because the Chinese giant has a clear ambition: to become the hegemonic power of the 21st century. But the history of the USSR shows us that we must not overestimate a power on the pretext that it is threatening. In this sense, recent statistics on the birth rate in China show that the country has an important weak point: its demography which is in the process of collapsing. The Chinese population is aging, and the year 2020 will have seen the lowest number of births since 1960 (12 million).
