China: Taiwan is not Ukraine – World

“Taiwan is not Ukraine and has always been an integral part of China.”China’s foreign ministry said on Wednesday as Taiwan’s President Cai Ying-yen called on the island to step up vigilance in military action in response to Ukraine’s crisis. This was reported by Reuters.

The comments come after British Prime Minister Boris Johnson noted the risk to Taiwan in a warning last week about the harmful effects on the world if Western countries do not keep their promises to support Ukraine’s independence.

China, which claims Taiwan as its territory, has stepped up military action near the self-governing island of Taiwan in the past two years.although Taiwan has not reported any recent unusual actions by Chinese forces at a time when tensions over Ukraine are rising.

To Beijing Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Hua Chuning rejects any link between Ukraine and Taiwan.

“Taiwan is not Ukraine”she said. “Taiwan has always been an integral part of China. It is an indisputable legal and historical fact.”

The issue of Taiwan remains from the Civil War, however China’s integrity has never had to be compromised and has never been compromisedHua added.

The Taiwanese government strongly opposes China’s territorial claims. Taiwanese President Cai Ying-wen says that Taiwan is an independent country called the Republic of Chinawhich remains the official name of Taiwan.

All security forces and military units “need to pay more attention to military events around Taiwan,” Tsai said at a meeting of a working group on the Ukrainian crisis set up by its National Security Council.

Taiwan and Ukraine are radically different in terms of geostrategy, geography and international supply chains, she added.

“But in the face of foreign forces that intend to manipulate the situation in Ukraine and affect the morale of Taiwanese society, all government units must step up the prevention of cognitive war started by foreign forces and local collaborators,” Tsai was quoted as saying.

The statement did not mention China by name, but the country is the most significant military threat facing Taiwan.

Tsai expressed “sympathy” for the situation in Ukraine because of the military threat facing the island from China.
