China Suddenly Laws Tencent, Baidu & SoftBank Cs, Why?

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Chinese market authorities again accused of monopolistic practices in their country. The local government fines 12 companies related to 10 agreements deemed illegal monopoly.

The policy was announced directly by the State Administration for Market Regulation (SAMR). They also announced a number of them including Chinese giants such as Baidu, Tencent Holdings, Didi Chuxing, SoftBank and companies backed by ByteDance.

According to the statement, each company was fined 500 thousand yuan or Rp1, 1 billion, quoted by CNBC International, Friday (12/3/2021).


In his statement, Tencent is ready to improve its operations. As well as timely reporting to regulators for future cases.

Meanwhile, Baidu, ByteDance, Didi and Softbank did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

In recent times, China has been keeping a close watch on the internet giants in the country. Including concerns about monopolistic practices and potential violations of consumer rights.

Alibaba, Tencent-backed China Literature and other companies have also been fined by SAMR. They are accused of not reporting the deal for anti-trust reviews. In addition, SAMR has also imposed fines for car-related deals.

In addition, SAMR has released detailed antitrust guidelines. One of them is that there should be no compulsion for merchants to have among China’s top players and also stop the tech giants from setting prices.
