China Strengthens Stability Maintenance and Prohibits Mourning of Late Prime Minister Li Keqiang During Qingming Festival: Report

(Central News Agency, Taipei, 5th) Social media messages showed that China has strengthened stability maintenance during the Qingming Festival holiday and prohibited people from paying tribute to the late Prime Minister Li Keqiang. The former residence of Li Keqiang in Hefei, Anhui Province was surrounded by police and plainclothes. Delivery platforms were once prohibited from placing orders to send flowers to the former residence, and people were also discouraged from buying flowers.

The Chinese authorities also blocked all messages on the Internet that mourned Li Keqiang during the Qingming Festival. When searching for “Li Keqiang” on Weibo and WeChat, the top results are all official news about Li Keqiang’s death on October 27 last year, with no real-time information at all.

Rights Defender Network reported that Tomb-Sweeping Day, a day to commemorate the deceased, has become a sensitive and stability-maintaining day like June Fourth in mainland China under the current rule of the Communist Party of China; mourning Li Keqiang has also become a stability-maintaining goal of this year’s Tomb-Sweeping Day.

According to reports, it was reported online that police officers were stationed every 10 meters on the Bianhe River Bridge in Suzhou, Anhui Province to prevent citizens from mourning Li Keqiang during the Tomb Sweeping Day. After Li Keqiang passed away last year, the Bianhe River Bridge was filled with bouquets of people’s spontaneous condolences.

Li Keqiang’s former residence, located at No. 80 Hongxing Road, Hefei, is heavily guarded during the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday. The entire street is full of police and plainclothes people; some dissidents were warned in advance by the state security not to pay homage to Li Keqiang during the Tomb Sweeping Day holiday.

According to the X platform “Teacher Li is not your teacher”, starting from the 3rd, at least 50 police officers and plainclothes officers have been on guard around Li Keqiang’s former residence day and night. Many netizens said there were too many police officers to dare to take photos.

Internet screenshots show that the delivery platform Meituan is unable to place an order to deliver flowers to Li Keqiang’s former residence on Hongxing Road, Hefei, and delivery services are not available in this area.

Today, apart from the police and plainclothes policemen everywhere on Hongxing Road, the owners of nearby flower shops and volunteers at the door will dissuade flower buyers from giving up their thoughts.

According to the release, Meituan showed that it is possible to order flowers at Li Keqiang’s former residence in Hefei today. However, after placing the order, the store will receive a call from the police requesting the location of the flower shop and the information of the person who placed the order. Therefore, the store will call the customer, hoping to change the delivery address.

On October 27, 2023, Li Keqiang died of a heart attack in Shanghai at the age of 68. Afterwards, large-scale spontaneous mourning activities took place in many places in mainland China. At that time, the CCP tried to persuade people to leave but did not forcefully stop them. (Editor: Yang Shengru) 1130405
