Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – China has now recorded an increase in Covid-19 cases due to the entry of the Delta variant. Even Monday (2/8/2021) cases again set a record high throughout 2021, which was 98 cases.
Of these, 55 cases were local transmissions. The Delta variant is now spreading in 20 cities and more than a dozen provinces in the Bamboo Curtain country.
To fight the increasing outbreak of the variant that was first discovered in India, millions of people are even now locked up (lockdown). Not only in the province hotspot case but also get to the capital city of Beijing.
In Beijing since Sunday, city officials have asked residents not to leave the city. “Unless necessary,” the office was quoted as saying AFP, Tuesday (3/8/2021).
All rail, bus and air lines from the corona epicenter areas were found to be cut off. Tourists are also prohibited from coming to Beijing even though it is currently the peak of summer holidays in the country.
“Only important tourists are allowed in if the nucleic acid test is negative,” a Beijing official said.
Meanwhile, in Hunan Province, Zhuzhou City, exactly 1.2 million residents were asked to stay at home for three days. This coincided with massive government testing and citywide vaccinations.
“The situation is still bleak and difficult,” the Zhuzhou government said.
The tourist town of Zhangjiajie near Zhuozhu has also been under lockdown since Friday. The total population of the city is 1.5 million.
China previously successfully fought Covid-19 in 2020. Since the outbreak hit Wuhan, Hubei Province, China has been in lockdown for three months and has achieved success in controlling cases.
However, a new cluster of the Delta variant at Nanjing international airport, Jiangsu Province, related to nine cleaners last July 20 threatened that success. Over the past two weeks, 360 local cases of the Delta variant of Covid-19 have been found.
It’s unclear where the Delta variant came from. However, citing Reuters, some suggested the infections came from flights from Russia.
