NATO must not put Russia in a corner. This was stated by Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Le Yucheng. According to him, the sanctions imposed by the western countries of Russia because of Ukraine are becoming more and more “cruel”.
Yuchen also believes that NATO should not expand further east, pushing a nuclear power like Russia “in the corner.”
China did not condemn Russia’s invasion and declined to call it an “invasion”, but expressed “deep concern about the war”. He also opposed sanctions against Moscow.
“Sanctions against Russia are becoming increasingly outrageous,” Yuchen told a security forum in Beijing.
He added that Russian citizens had been deprived of foreign assets “for no reason”.
“History has proven time and time again that sanctions cannot solve problems. Sanctions will only harm ordinary people, affect the economic and financial system … and worsen the world economy.”
