Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – China again recorded an increase in new Covid-19 cases, since January 2021. The country on Wednesday (28/7/2021) recorded 86 new daily cases, up from 71 the previous day and breaking the latest record since January the day after tomorrow, 76 cases.
In addition, data from the National Health Commission also shows that 18 new symptomatic Covid cases were recorded yesterday. Currently, a total of 426 OTG patients are still under surveillance.
Why are China’s Covid-19 cases rising again?
The average new case is found in the city of Nanjing, Jiangsu Province. The initial cluster started with workers at Lukou International airport.
Case found since 21 July. Since then, in just a few days, Covid cases in Nanjing rose from 17 to 75 cases per Sunday (25/7/2021).
The Delta variant is believed to be the most likely source. Now the case is said to have spread to a number of other provinces in China.
Local media reported the case of a passenger from Lukou Airport to Zhuhai Airport. The Lukoi cluster also spread to Zhongshan in Guangdong, Mianyang in Sichuan, Hexian and Wuhu in Anhui, Suqian in Jiangsu and Shenyang in Liaoning.
With this spike in cases, the Jiangsu Provincial Government said it would conduct a round of mass testing for all residents of Nanjing City. Moreover, now patients take longer than usual to show symptoms of the disease.
China is the place where the Covid-19 virus started. The virus emerged in the city of Wuhan and forced the national authorities to implement a massive lockdown for nearly 3 months in the central Chinese city.
To date, China has recorded 92,762 positive cases of Covid-19 since 2019. There have been 4,636 deaths since the outbreak first appeared in the Bamboo Curtain country.
