China has reported more corona deaths for the first time in weeks. These are two deceased corona patients. But the actual number of deaths is likely much higher.
Due to the strict policy of the past 2.5 years, few Chinese people have developed immunity against the corona virus. The vaccination rate is officially high. But far fewer people have received a booster injection. This is especially true for people over the age of eighty.
As a result, some fear that the death toll will rise to 1.5 million in the coming months. Officially, 5,237 corona patients have died since the start of the pandemic.
On December 3, Beijing also announced that people have died from COVID-19. Many measures were later reversed due to an unprecedented wave of protests. Reporters in China report that crematoria have been working overtime for several weeks because so many people are dying. It is not yet clear whether this is due to the corona virus.
Epidemiologists worry about how many people could die in the coming months. Prominent Chinese epidemiologist Wu Zunyou said on Saturday that his country is currently in a wave of infection. It’s the first of three waves he’s expecting this winter.
