The Chinese government on Friday rejected the request of the World Health Organization (WHO) for a second investigation into the origins of Covid-19.

China insisted on expanding the search for the origins of the coronavirus “to other countries” and reiterated that the theory that the virus came out of a Wuhan laboratory is “extremely unlikely.”

Beijing also asked the WHO “not to politicize” the investigations in this regard.
“We oppose the political tracing … and the abandonment of the joint report” issued after the WHO expert team’s visit to the Chinese city of Wuhan in January, Vice Foreign Minister Ma Zhaoxu said.
The report of the WHO mission in China, published in March, pointed out four possible theories about the origin of Covid-19, although it indicated that that of a laboratory accident was the least likely.
Following the publication of the WHO-#China joint report of the phase I studies on the origins of the #COVID19 virus in March 2021, WHO has outlined the next series of studies that need to be undertaken & continues to be in discussions with Member States & experts on next steps.

In mid-July, WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus proposed conducting a second investigation into the origin of the coronavirus that includes laboratory and market audits in Wuhan.
