The Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Wang Wenbin has denied allegations from Canada to the People’s Republic of Justice. On Sunday, the Canadian Foreign Minister Marc Garneau stated that Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor had been “arbitrarily detained” by China for 1,000 days and criticized the judicial process in China as “non-transparent”.
Michael Kovrig and Michael Spavor have been charged with suspected crimes against China’s national security, and information recently released by the relevant authorities showed that there was solid evidence of their crimes, Wang said. The Chinese judicial authorities handled the case in accordance with the law and all of their rights were fully respected.
Speaking of the military coup in Guinea on Sunday, Wang said China had called for the release of incarcerated President Alpha Conde. China calls on all parties to exercise restraint and resolve the problem through dialogue and consultation.
