China Prepares for All-Out War: Testing Weapons Performance in a World War Scenario

Beijing is preparing for all-out war. While the risk of conflict between China and the United States has never been higher, the Chinese Communist Party has decided to test the performance of its weapons in a world war scenario. THE South China Morning Post revealed that in the event of a confrontation with Washington, the People’s Republic will rely heavily on its military navy but also on its highly industrialized economy and its civilian population.

This scenario of the apocalypse soberly baptized Z has its roots in a regional war caused by territorial claims in the South China Sea or even provoked by a Chinese invasion of Taiwan if the island declared its independence. In this combat simulation, these initially localized fights could then escalate into a world war against the United States and perhaps even against the entire Western bloc.

As this potential war should take place at sea or on the coasts, it is above all the capabilities of the Chinese fleet that have been scrupulously tested. In particular, the Peking Navy had to repel or destroy two or even more groups of American carrier battle groups. It is the main tool of the US Navy’s power projection on the seas of the globe. It is composed of an aircraft carrier but also several cruisers to counter enemy missiles but also to hit land targets. The aircraft carrier is also protected by destroyers that can attack any type of target. Finally, a nuclear attack submarine is always present to counter underwater threats.

To get rid of such a powerful flotilla, the Chinese army would rely on its advanced technologies, in particular hypersonic missiles or nuclear-powered torpedoes capable of avoiding American defenses. To accomplish this mission, Beijing plans to use the Dongfeng-17, dubbed the nightmare of aircraft carriers. It is a missile that can hit a target within a radius of 2,500 kilometers by reaching a cruising speed that exceeds 7,000 kilometers per hour. To destroy an objective, the DongFeng-17 must first be launched by a bomber at an altitude of more than 100 kilometers. Once this height is reached, the device will fall on its target with a glider system. The machine will have an unpredictable trajectory that can take several angles or several directions and it will therefore be almost impossible to intercept it.

The People’s Republic not only tested its offensive capabilities but also wanted to know how its ships could defend against the US Navy. As part of the simulation, a Chinese destroyer was attacked by more than a dozen missiles and three torpedoes. In the conditions of such an all-out attack, the combat capabilities of the Chinese ship were severely reduced. The warship lost a third of its air defense potential, while only half of the surface-to-air missiles were able to hit targets.

Chinese researchers have also looked into the possibility of the conflict degenerating into nuclear war. The report is brief and unsurprising. If nuclear weapons are used, then there will be lasting and detrimental effects on the planet’s ecosystems, agriculture and environment which could lead to food shortages, genetic mutations and higher rates of cancer and other diseases. For Chinese strategists and the government of Xi Jinping; an all-out war between two nuclear powers would have catastrophic consequences for human civilization and therefore is not desirable.

However, it is not uncommon for Chinese military researchers to consider the worst possible scenarios to better assess the capabilities of their equipment in such situations. “It can help our military better understand its strengths, weaknesses and limitations,” concluded a researcher at the South China Morning Post, who asked not to be named due to the sensitivity of the issue.
