Jakarta, CNN Indonesia

China reported a spike in infections Covid-19 as a result of diffusion varian Delta corona virus in four provinces on Thursday (29/7).

The spike in Covid-19 infections began when nine Nanjing airport workers tested positive for Covid-19 on July 20. Since then, Covid-19 infections have continued to increase, reaching 171 cases in Jiangsu Province and spreading to at least four other provinces.

This is the largest geographic spread of the Delta variant of Covid-19 in recent months in China.

Jiangsu Provincial Government immediately implemented lockdown and isolating hundreds of thousands of residents of the region in order to control this new wave of Covid-19 infections.

“Internet cafes, cinemas, bars, karaoke and even libraries in the capital Nanjing have also been closed,” an official with the Jiangsu Covid-19 task force, Lu Jing, told reporters. AFP.

Since the Covid-19 cluster was detected, Lu said Nanjing itself had conducted mass inspections of its 9.2 million citizens twice. He admitted that the local government is facing difficulties controlling this new outbreak due to the highly contagious Delta variant.

Because most of the patients who tested positive for Covid-19 had been vaccinated. This raises concerns about the vaccine’s efficacy against the new coronavirus.

Meanwhile, Sichuan Province reported three new Covid-19 cases, all of which were linked to the Delta variant. In the capital Beijing, the government reported one case of Covid-19 originating from local transmission.

It was the first case of local transmission in Beijing in six months.

So far, China has targeted to vaccinate 65 percent of its 1.5 billion population by the end of 2021.

So far, China’s National Health Commission said the government had injected 1.5 billion doses of the vaccine into its citizens as of Wednesday (28/7).
