BEIJING, Feb. 17 (Xinhua) — Last Thursday, the China National Grid Power Corporation (CNPC) began construction of an ultra-high-voltage electric power transmission line and a hydroelectric power storage and pumping station.
The Jinchang-Hubei 800kV direct current electric power transmission project extends 1,901km. It is currently considered the highest project for direct current electric power transmission in the world. The company said the project will pass through four provincial-level regions: Tibet Autonomous Region, Sichuan Province, Chongqing Municipality and Hubei Province.
The Tongshan hydroelectric pumping and storage station will be equipped with four sets of electric power generators, each with a capacity of 350,000 kilowatts.
The company said the total investment for the two projects will reach 42.7 billion yuan (about 6.23 billion US dollars).
The company has completed the construction of 33 ultra-high-voltage projects nationwide so far, and plans to build more hydroelectric power storage and pumping stations with a total installed capacity of more than 27 million kilowatts during the 14th Five-Year Plan period (2021-2025).
