China Lockdown One City Due to Three Corona Cases

Beijing

Authority China apply lockdown against a town near the border Myanmar after detecting three new cases corona virus (COVID-19). Mass coronavirus testing has also begun in the city as local authorities move quickly to limit the emergence of another outbreak.

As reported AFP and The Star, Monday (5/7/2021), this is the second moment in four months when the border town of Ruili, home to more than 210,000 residents, waslockdown after the discovery of a new case of Corona which was an imported case from Myanmar.

Ruili is the main crossing point of the Muse region in Myanmar. Since a military coup hit Myanmar on February 1, there has been concern that Myanmar citizens will flock across the Chinese border to escape military violence.

According to health authorities in Yunnan Province, one in three new cases of Corona in Ruili is a Myanmar citizen.

Chinese authorities have closed major bridges and border crossings into Myanmar since last March, when coronavirus cases soared across borders.

China has also stepped up patrols in recent months to prevent illegal border crossings and crack down on human trafficking to prevent the flow of refugees.

The local government said on Monday (5/7) local time that all residents of the city of Ruili will be tested for Corona in the next two days.
