China lifts the veto on the NBA. China Central Television (CCTV), The Chinese state broadcaster will resume live broadcasts of the NBA from March 8, the day the All-Star is celebrated, as reported SportBusiness.
“Barring surprise, the CCTV will resume broadcasting the NBA, something that many fans have been waiting for a long time,” wrote the renowned Chinese basketball reporter Zhao Huanyu.
Cctv-5, the sports channel of the state broadcaster, announced in October 2019 that it was suspending the broadcast of NBA games in China after Houston Rockets CEO Daryl Morey took a stand in favor of protesters in Hong Kong.
The Cctv has not broadcast any game of this NBA season
A few months ago, public television itself broadcast the fifth game of the NBA finals between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Miami Heat. Despite this, the Cctv has not broadcast live a single match of the 2020-2021 season, which began last December.
After the incident that occurred in 2019 through social networks by Daryl Morey, the manager left his position in the Houston Rockets last October and moved to Philadelphia to serve as director of operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, another team of the NBA.
As a consequence of the separation between China and the NBA, the American basketball association estimated a drop in business of 400 million dollars, as China is one of the main markets where competition generates more income.
