In China, the train for the fastest maglev railway in the world left the production line on Tuesday.

The train of the state-owned CRRC left the production facility in the eastern city of Qingdao, the state news agency Xinhua reported. The train must reach a speed of 600 km per hour, making China the fastest train in the world, according to Xinhua.
Unlike regular trains, maglev trains float over the track, propelled by strong electromagnets. Since there is no friction, much higher speeds are possible. For example, the travel time on the Beijing-Shanghai route would decrease from about five hours to two and a half hours.
The train will now undergo years of testing. In addition, the sections of the railway itself have yet to be built. According to a government announcement, a whole row of metropolises and provinces have planned new connections via maglev trains. The first trains would enter service within five to ten years.
China inaugurated its first maglev train in Shanghai in 2002.
