Zhuhai, Nov. 14. (askanews) – The largest air show in the country is being staged in Zhuhai, China, in Guangdong. The week-long event showcases jets, drones, helicopters, missile defense systems, commercial aircraft and more.
It’s an opportunity for Beijing to put its growing military power on full display to potential customers and competitors. China has invested many resources in modernizing and expanding its aviation capabilities to face the United States and other countries such as Taiwan; It has recently sent numerous warplanes over the island, continuing to claim it as its own territory.
The star of the China Airshow, held every two years, is the new J-35A stealth fighter; its official presentation suggests it is almost ready to enter service, which would make China the only country, other than the United States, to have two stealth fighters in action, according to experts. The J-35A is lighter than the existing Chinese model, the J20, and has a design more similar to that of the US F-35.
