On July 3, 2023, Wang Yi, member of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee and director of the Central Foreign Affairs Office, attended the opening ceremony of the 2023 China-Japan-ROK Cooperation International Forum in Qingdao and delivered a speech.
Wang Yi pointed out that we should adhere to mutual respect and live in harmony. China, Japan and South Korea have formed a common value of “peace is the most important” and “harmony without diversity” in the history of thousands of years of exchanges. In modern times, wars of aggression and colonial rule have left profound historical lessons, which have made the people of this region understand the value of peace better. In the past few decades, China, Japan and South Korea have achieved sustainable development and successfully promoted the modernization process. The key lies in upholding the concept of peaceful development, respecting each other’s core interests, and understanding the paths chosen by each other.
China has a tradition of benevolence and good neighborliness since ancient times. It will never repeat the old path of expansion and plunder that some major powers have gone through in history, and it also opposes unilateral bullying by any country today. President Xi Jinping has successively put forward the Global Development Initiative, the Global Security Initiative, and the Global Civilization Initiative, in order to propose Chinese solutions to eliminate global development deficits, peace deficits, and trust and governance deficits. China will continue to promote lasting peace in the region and the world through its own peaceful development.
