BEIJING –
China Aerospace Science and
Technology Corp. (CASC) has successfully conducted trials of
the spaceship some time ago. This success is said by
China as a milestone in the development of reusable space transportation
technology.
“The spacecraft took off from a launch center in northwest China on Friday and completed its flight according to established procedures,” said China Aerospace Science and Technology Corp. (CASC), the country’s main aerospace contractor. Reuters, Tuesday (20/7/2021).

After making a flight into Earth’s atmosphere, the craft returned horizontally. As is well known, a spaceship that can fly into suborbital space must be able to travel as high as 100 km above the earth’s surface.
CASC did not say how high the spacecraft flew, or explain its flight path. Visuals of the spacecraft or its flight are not provided.
The development of reusable space transportation technology is an important symbol of China’s transition from a ‘big’ space explorer nation to a ‘powerful’ space explorer nation,” CASC said.
Spaceship reusability will result in higher mission frequency and lower mission costs due to reusability.

In September last year, China sent an experimental spacecraft into orbital space on a rocket. The spacecraft returned to Earth after two days of orbiting on its low-key mission.
Commentators on Chinese social media speculate that Beijing has developed a spaceship such as the US Air Force’s X-37B, an autonomous spacecraft that can remain in orbit for long periods of time before flying back to Earth on its own.
It is not known whether the orbital and suborbital spacecraft launched by China have fixed wings like the US Spacecraft.
