China is investigating the first case of using ChatGPT to create and spread fake news –

/ world today news/ In northwestern China’s Gansu province, a man was arrested for allegedly generating fake news using artificial intelligence technology and spreading it on Chinese social media platforms.

According to the information, the man surnamed Hun used ChatGPT to create news about a fatal train accident with elements collected from various current news. The fabricated story that a train hit road workers in Gansu province on April 25, killing nine of them, has caught the attention of local cybersecurity officials. They immediately launched an investigation and found that a total of 21 accounts on Baijiahao, a blog-style platform of Chinese search engine Baidu, had simultaneously published different versions of the article in which the location of the accident was not the same. The fake news garnered over 15,000 clicks.

The police traced all the accounts involved in the case and found that they belonged to a marketing company in Shenzhen, Guangdong Province, and the detainee was its legal representative. He was accused of causing scandals and provoking trouble.

It is the first such case since China’s first regulations on deepfake technology applications came into effect in January.
