Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – The Covid-19 pandemic has again made China ‘fashioned’. Most recently, the Bamboo Curtain Country has found nearly 200 local Covid-19 cases in just the past week.
The beginning of the case was found in an elderly couple who took part in a tour group in the country. The first case was detected on October 17, 2021.
They started their journey from Shanghai then to the city of Xi’an in Gansu Province and to Inner Mongolia. Dozens of cases were found related to the trip and involved 12 tour groups.
Initially, the government said there were five areas in five provinces that were infected. But in the latest statement on Sunday (24/20/2021), there were 11 provinces that had Covid-19.
Quotes Reuters, Xi Jinping’s government health official, said the latest Covid-19 outbreak was due to the Delta variant of Covid-19. This is likely to spread further and further.
“There is an increased risk that the outbreak may spread further due to seasonal factors,” Chinese National Health Commission spokeswoman Mi Feng told reporters.
“The sequence shows this (Delta variant) is different from previous sources and the new cases are from new sources overseas,” added the commission’s deputy director, Wu Liangyou.
Since last weekend, the local government where the case was detected has canceled flights. Local authorities are also reportedly closing tourist sites, schools and entertainment venues in the affected areas.
In the latest update several regions in Inner Mongolia are also in lockdown. Two districts were closed, namely the Alxa Lef Banner district, which has 180 thousand residents, and the Ejin district, with 35,700 residents.
Inner Mongolia is a coal-rich province. The closure in the region is believed to affect the supply of the commodity, amid the energy crisis that hit China.
Tuesday (10/26/2021), China also locked down the city where four million people live, Lanzhou, Gansu Province. All residents are asked to stay at home except in an emergency.
“City residents will now be asked to stay at home,” the authorities said, citing AFP.
“The entry and exit of residents is tightly controlled and limited to essential supplies or medical care.”
The city was also called to halt bus and taxi services. A total of 70 train trips, including the main route to the capital Beijing, were suspended. Flights were also canceled for public safety reasons. The opening date is unknown.
Meanwhile in Beijing, social restrictions have been implemented in a number of districts with lockdown limited. Access to tourist areas is restricted and residents are asked not to leave the capital unless necessary.
Some 23,000 residents in a Changping housing complex were also locked down. Because there are nine cases found.
