China is actively working to address climate change – 2024-03-31 14:57:27

/ world today news/ By the end of September this year, China’s newly installed wind power capacity has ranked first in the world for 14 consecutive years, accounting for more than half of the world’s volume. Currently, almost 50% of the installed photovoltaic power generation capacity, half of the new energy vehicles and a quarter of the new green spaces in the world are located precisely in China.

The above data well explains why at the Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention (COP28), which is being held in Dubai, the international community pays a lot of attention to China’s contribution in this field.

As the world’s largest developing country, China has played a key role in promoting the conclusion and entry into force of the Paris Agreement, making efforts to achieve sustainable long-term results. Beijing has made tackling climate change a national strategy. China is developing multiple policies to support renewable energy, achieve peak carbon emissions and carbon neutrality, promote regulation of energy and transportation industries, etc. China’s carbon market accounts for the largest volume of greenhouse gas emissions in the world. In 2022, the country’s carbon dioxide emissions will drop by more than 51% compared to their 2005 level.

At the same time, China actively promotes global climate governance and provides support and assistance to other developing countries through the Global South Cooperation Mechanism. For example, in Kenya, a Chinese company put into operation in 2019 the largest photovoltaic power plant in East Africa with a capacity of 50MW. It can meet the electricity needs of 70,000 households or over 380,000 people. By the end of June this year, China had signed 46 agreements with 39 developing countries for joint work on climate change as cooperation among countries in the Global South.
