China Increases Number of Plants Authorized for Export from Brazil

This week, the Chinese health authority, which has been dependent on Customs for a few years, informed Brazil of an increase in the number of plants authorized to export to that destination.

Of the 106 plants that it already had, from now on there are another 38 that have been added.

Of them, 24 are for bovine slaughter, one for thermo-processing and one warehouse for the same species.

In this way, there are now 67 authorized cattle plants, the rest corresponding to swine, poultry and donkey species.

The information indicates that it was the largest instant authorization granted by China.

Some of these plants were inspected remotely and others were inspected on-site in December.

This novelty enhances Brazil’s ability to send beef to China, although implicit percentages cannot be used to predict it.

Firstly, because it is possible that the new plants will be smaller than those that were already in the race.

Secondly, because the new plants will have competition from the old ones and, in turn, all of Brazil will continue to face competition from other countries, in a market whose size is large but not infinite.

In another vein, Brazil was also freed from an antidumping measure that imposed tariff surcharges on chicken meat that ranged between 18 and 34%, according to the company, which considerably expands Brazilian competitiveness in the sector.

Surely that decision will be looked upon with longing by around twenty Argentine companies that have been waiting for Chinese authorization for several years.
