China imposes sanctions on US officials

BEIJING – China impose sanctions on some individuals and organizations United States of America (US) in response to recent US sanctions against Chinese officials in Hong Kong.

Those targeted by the sanctions include former US Commerce Secretary Wilbur Ross.

The counter-sanctions come days before US Undersecretary of State Wendy Sherman is due to visit China.

US sanctions against Chinese officials in Hong Kong are due to their role in the security crackdown in the region.

Washington has also warned its business community about the increased risks of operating in Hong Kong.

China introduced the National Security Act in Hong Kong last year in response to massive pro-democracy protests.
