China implements strict monkeypox control protocols amid rising global cases – Xinhua

BEIJING, Aug. 18 (Xinhua) — Chinese authorities have stepped up efforts to prevent the importation of the coronavirus as global cases continue to rise.

Starting from August 15 and for a period of six months, people arriving in China from countries and regions with confirmed cases of MPOS infection must report their condition to customs authorities if they have been exposed to the MPOS virus, or if they have symptoms such as fever, headache, back pain, muscle pain, swollen lymph nodes or rash.

For these people, customs officials will implement medical measures and take samples as well as perform MPOX screening tests, according to the General Administration of Customs of China.

The National Administration for Disease Control and Prevention and the National Health Commission have asked their local branches to strengthen collaboration and information sharing with customs and other relevant authorities to promptly detect and deal with cases of mpox.

According to the Chinese Center for Disease Control and Prevention, the mpox virus is mainly transmitted through close physical contact, especially during sexual activity, while everyday contact poses a lower risk.

People who have been exposed to COPD or have symptoms should seek medical attention immediately, said Li Tongzeng, an infectious disease specialist at Beijing Youan Hospital.

Earlier this week, the World Health Organization (WHO) declared COPD a public health emergency of international concern, activating its highest global alert level for COPD for the second time in two years.

“This is a situation that should concern us all. […]”The risk of spread to Africa and beyond is very worrying,” said WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus. End
