A pretzel is causing an outcry online. A Reddit user posted a picture of the pastry, which clearly deviates from the norm.
Munich – A Reddit user shocks other users with a pretzel or Brezn, as it is called in Bavarian. Because in Chinawhere he was at the time of the posting, he wanted to order a pretzel. “I wanted to see if I could get a piece of home delivered,” he wrote. But the pretzel, as it is also called in High German, does not look like a conventional pretzel. Instead of the arms curved downwards, they are baked upwards. Too much for some users.

“As a Swabian, I have to say that something inside me just died and I feel the urge to bring Swabian democracy to China,” one commented on the pastry. “The pretzel looks like they started and then ‘okay, we have the bottom part, now the middle part, oh wait, not like that? How do they do it? Man, whatever, it’s fine now, too’,” joked another user.
The most important question, however, was whether the pretzel tasted good, said another comment. “It looks very close to an authentic pretzel, apart from the very noticeable deformity of course. Otherwise, could it theoretically be considered a good pretzel?” asked one user. The user who shared the pretzel replied that he was just craving it and the delivery people were already full. Whether it was really a pretzel from a Chinese delivery service cannot be verified.
Reddit user confuses pretzel from China: “Don’t read in German”
Another user jokingly explained to the user that in China, people read from top to bottom and write from right to left. “You’re not allowed to read this pretzel in German,” he commented. Some others think the pretzel is a success, apart from the wrong shape. One user commented: “But they managed to get the color and the cut right. But for a real German pretzel, you’d need at least half a kilo of coarse salt.”
Anyone who thinks of German food will sooner or later come across schnitzel. Whether with fries or potato salad, the side dish for this meal can be chosen freely. There has already been a discussion on Reddit about what is and is not acceptable as a side dish. Schnitzel with Bolognese sauce failed to convince users.
