Beijing, Oct 18 (EFE).- China noted that its economy and that of Brazil are “highly complementary, with aligned development strategies and shared governance concepts,” highlighting their position as the largest developing countries in their respective hemispheres.

In a meeting held this Thursday in Beijing with a high-level delegation from Brazil, headed by Rui Costa, chief of staff of the presidency, the Foreign Minister of the Asian giant, Wang Yi, highlighted the importance of comprehensive strategic cooperation between the two. countries.

According to the Chinese diplomat, this collaboration reinforces the fundamental interests of its people and exemplifies the solidarity of the group called by Beijing as the Global South, made up of developing countries that seek to reduce global inequalities, in a context of international coordination.

Wang also reaffirmed China’s confidence in Brazil’s development and willingness to take advantage of the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations to strengthen strategic collaboration and build a community with a shared future.

For his part, Costa, chief of staff of the Brazilian presidency, expressed his country’s interest in deepening practical cooperation with China in areas such as “economy, trade, finance and technological innovation.”

Costa stressed that Brazil seeks to obtain “tangible results” in these fields and take the comprehensive strategic partnership between both countries to a new level, contributing to “global stability and justice.”

According to official data, China has been Brazil’s largest trading partner since 2008, and both nations maintain close relations promoted by the BRICS group – founded by Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa – which since 2009 has advocated for greater representation of emerging and developing countries in international organizations.

The Chinese market was the destination of 30% of Brazilian exports in 2023, when sales to the Asian country totaled 104 billion dollars, made up mostly of food and raw materials.

China, for its part, maintains investments in Brazil amounting to around 40 billion dollars, which in recent years have been directed primarily to the energy area, in which the Asian country intends to increase its participation. EFE
