China has hypersonic missiles, the US hastily made an antidote

Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia The United States (US) is developing a missile system that will be able to defend the United States from hypersonic weapons attacks, the Pentagon chose Northrop Grumman, Lockheed Martin and Raytheon. This step comes in the midst of accusations by the US against China which is considered to already have a hypersonic missile that had been tested.

The three companies were awarded separate contracts totaling $60 million to develop a launch-phase interceptor that would be guided by a constellation of satellites and sensors to intercept hypersonic missiles deep in Earth’s atmosphere as they hurtle toward their targets.

In 2022, the Missile Defense Agency allocates US$ 136 million or Rp. 1.94 trillion for research, development, testing and evaluation for hypersonic weapon defense systems.

The United States and its global rivals have intensified their efforts to build hypersonic weapons that are the next generation of weapons that can fly at high speeds.

Therefore, to counteract hypersonic weapons, a faster defense system and new systems are needed to defeat them.

Often, the Pentagon holds competitions for arms or defense contracts in an effort to get the highest quality product at the lowest price.

Earlier this fall, a defense official said the Missile Defense Agency was working with industry and hoped to receive an award by the end of the calendar year.

There is widespread hope that the Missile Defense Agency will select the two companies to proceed. The inclusion of a third competitor underscores the Missile Defense Agency’s desire to incentivize the industry to conduct research and development around this new class of weapon.

China Successfully Made

China has reportedly successfully launched a test fire of a hypersonic missile. The missile reportedly successfully circled the earth in a test run last summer.

This news was reported directly by General John Hyten, vice chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff of the United States military (US). Hyten said this was a warning that China might one day be able to launch a surprise nuclear strike on its territory.
